Abstract

508,806. Windscreen-cleaners. O'SHEI, W. E., and TRICO-FOLBERTH, Ltd. Jan. 5, 1938, No. 350. [Class 138 (i)] In a windscreen-cleaner which is driven by an electric motor and is provided with auxiliary means for parking the wiper outside the field of vision, the motor 1 is mounted in a casing 2, formed with pistons 10, 11 slidable in cylinders 12, 13. The motor drives the wiper 7 through a crank, not shown, worm gearing 4, 5, and a shaft 3 mounted in the casing 2. The cylinders are selectively connected, through passages 19, 20, a valve 18, and a pipe 17, to a source of suction, and the control knob of the valve is linked to the switch 21 of the motor. When the switch is opened to stop the motor, the valve 18 applies suction to the cylinder 13, so as to move the casing to the right and park the wiper. The casing may be locked in operative position by a suction-controlled plunger 24. The motor is kept running, until the wiper is in parked position, by an auxiliary switch 23 controlled by the position of the wiper. The pistons may be controlled electrically instead of by suction, and the wiper may be disconnected from its drive when in parked position. In modifications, the movement of the casing is effected by the motor, acting through a cam on the shaft 3 and an abutment or parking is effected by longitudinal movement of the worm 5.
