Abstract
There is added to a viscose spinning solution or spinning bath, an organic substance which, owing to the presence of a hydrophobic non-aliphatic group of long chain-like structure, which may include benzene or other cyclic nuclei and atoms other than carbon and hydrogen, ionizes in solution to form cations possessing surface-active properties. Such substances include nitrogen bases, sulphonium, arsonium or phosphonium bases or their salts, and in examples, the following are specified, toluene-azophenyl-trimethylammonium iodide (obtained by heating 4 - toluene - azo - NN-dimethyl aniline with methyl iodide), benzeneazophenyl trimethylammonium iodide (prepared in a similar manner from 4-benzene-azo-NN-dimethyl aniline and methyl iodide), diphenyl - azophenyl - trimethylammonium methyl sulphate (obtained by diazotizing aminodiphenyl, coupling it with dimethyl aniline and treating the product with dimethyl sulphate in nitrobenzene solution), and isopropyl-naphthyl - trimethyl - ammonium iodide (by nitrating isopropyl naphthalene, reducing the product to isopropyl-naphthylamine, and heating with methyl iodide).
