Abstract

The invention comprises water-insoluble dyes of formula: <FORM:0844394/IV (c)/1> where X is H or OAIK. They are made by coupling an appropriate diazotised aniline derivative with the requisite naphthoic acid anilide. The dyes are applied to textiles by conventional padding or printing techniques and may be incorporated in spinning solutions for the production of spun-dyed cellulose acetate and viscose rayons. They may also be used in the preparation of colour lakes and for colouring films of cellulose esters and ethers, natural and synthetic resins and rubber. Orange shades are obtained. In examples X is H, O Me and O Et. Specification 728,601 is referred to.
