Abstract
478,598. Regulating the weft tension in looms. CRABTREE & SON, Ltd., D., and FELTON, W. July 25, 1936, No. 20627. [Class 142 (ii)] In needle looms for weaving carpets, the weft a passes between a member 2 on a bracket 4 and a member 3 on a spring-controlled lever 3a, next round a pulley 10 on a lever 8 pivoted at 8b to the bracket 4 and then to the needle. When this inserts the weft, its tension moves the lever to the position shown, a runner 7 on a stud thereon acting on an inclined bracket 3c on the lever 3a which is thereby raised to allow the weft to pass freely between the members 2, 3. When the needle returns, the lever 8 is pulled to the right by its spring 9 so that weft is continued to be drawn from its supply, whilst the lever 3a falls, and the weft is gripped between the members 2, 3 and thus held tensioned from these parts forwards. The members 2, 3 may have flat surfaces, or one may have a projection and the other be indented. The Provisional Specification describes an arrangement wherein a thick part of the'weft passing over a detector causes a spring controlled lever to be moved and actuate the detector to cause more freedom for the passage of the weft.
