Abstract
184.,344. Berry, A. O. July 8, 1921. Shuttles.-In shuttles having a notched finger adapted to project the weft through the eye and provided with means for guiding the weft into the notch, the finger 3 is hinged at one end 5 to a shield 10 pivotally mounted on a post 14 secured to the shuttle. The finger is normally held near the top surface of the shuttle by a spring 7, which is secured at 11 to the finger, encircles the part 5, and is secured at its other end 12 to a thread-guide 13 fixed to the post 14. A yoke 19 on the guide limits the upward movement of the finger and determines its normal position. The guide has a loop 21 covering the notched end 4 of the finger and is secured by a pin 24 to the shuttle, a second loop 22 being provided, if desired. To thread the shuttle, weft is drawn through a passage 25 between the finger and the shuttle, around the post 14 beneath the shield 10, and through a passage 26 between the guide 13 and the shuttle, so that it lies in the notch 4 beneath the loop 21. The finger is then depressed and moved laterally to project the weft through the eye 6.
