In the case of perpendicular or hang-nig`- over shuttle-paths Vit is rather difficult to guide the shuttle so that the loop'of the thread coming from the needle is with cer tainty'being caught by the point ofthe shutfV tle. Although, for this purpose, arrangements have been made to keepvthe shuttle continuously vpressed to the shuttle guide by means'of spring tension, these arrangements have showna "drawback in so far, as the spring, keeping in touch with the shuttle, at the samey tinieis increasing the difficulty4 of sliding the thread over the back of theshuttle, and the needle-thread must be of a certain strength, as ot ierwise it would be broken by the Aresisting force occasioned in its passage between thev spring and the back of the shuttle.
In order to obviate these drawbacks, provisions areinade according to the present invention, that the spring pressing the shuttle against the shuttle guide'is not fixed to the shuttle driver, as has hitherto been the case, but to the shuttle guide or to the apertured cloth-plate, so that the shuttle is being pressed against the shuttle guide only for a brief moment, in which the needle-loop is beingV caught, after which brief moment the looplthread, however, may be drawn, withn out being impelled by the spring, over the back of the shuttle quite loosely and freely.V

VThe; general arrangement has been made in suchA a manner as to cause' the shuttle 12, in itsV lowest position according to Fig. 5, to be pressed by the spring 6 to the shuttle guide l in a manner suiflciently tight, so that the loop ofthe needle thread, passing out from thestitch plate aperture 15 and placing itself-into the plate ofthe shuttle, willbe caught with certainty. As soon, however, as the shuttle has been moved upwards by means of the driver device 7, 8, 9, it sepa* rates from the spring 6, so that the needlethread may slide freely and wit-hout hindrance over the back of the shuttle, without being subjected to any additional tension. by the spring 6.
The arrangement above described is intended for an embroidering machine adapted. to embroider stockings and requiring a high shuttle track set up vertically. There is, however, nothing to prevent the adaption of the principle of the invention also the other shuttle paths not set up absolutely vertical, and more especially to hanging-over shuttle tracks.
In the case of shuttle'guides set up side by side very closely, in which the bent over element 3 has been omitted at the stitch plates 2, and where the shuttle is made to be guided by the back side at the adjacent shuttle guide 1,- the spring 6 must be fixed to the latter, and for this urpose a suitable takeout must be providjed in the said shuttle gid.:
Having thus described said invention, what I clann, 1s:-
l. In a shuttle embroidering machine, in
combination: a shuttle and means for guiding it; means for reciprocating said shuttle in said guide-means; a spring attached to the guide-means and so arranged as to be adapted to press the said shuttle against the guidepath provided for it in the said gnide means in that position in which the point of the said shuttleis in the neighbourhood of the stitch plate aperture, substantially as set forth.
2. In a shuttle embroidering machine, in combination: a shuttle and means for guiding it, these means being composed ot a shuttle guiding member proper and of a stitchplate so arranged as to co-operate With said guiding member proper in guiding the shuttle; means for reciprocating said shuttle in said guide-means; a spring attached to the guide-means and so arranged as to be adapted to press the said shuttle against the guidepath provided for it in the said guide means in that position in Which the point of the said shuttle is in the neighbourhood of the stitch plate aperture, substantially as set forth.
3. In a shuttle embroidering machine, in combination: a shuttle and means for guid- .ing it, these means being composed of a shuttle guiding member proper and ot a stitch-plate so arranged as to co-operate with said guiding member proper in guiding the shuttle, said stitch-plate having a bent-over edge and an aperture in this rim; a spring attached to the guide-means and so arranged as to be adapted to press, through said aperture, the said shuttle against the guide-path provided for it in the said guide means in that position in which the point oit the said shuttle is in the neighbourhood ot the stitch plate aperture, substantially7 as set forth.
4. In a shuttle embroidering machine, in combination: a shuttle and means tor guiding it; means for reciprocating said shuttle in said guide-means, and being composed ot a reciprocating bar, a pin secured thereto, and a movable hook also attached thereto, the arrangement being such that the shuttle can be grasped between said pin and said hookga spring attached to the guide-means and so arranged as to be adapted to press the said shuttle against the guide-path provider 'for it in the said guide means in that position in which the point of the said shuttle is in the neighbourhood of the stitch plate aperture, substantially as set forth.
5. In a. shuttle embroidering machine, in combination: a shuttle and means for guiding it, these means being composed ot a shuttle guiding member proper and of a stitchplate so arranged as to co-operate with said guiding member proper in guiding the shuttle; means for reciprocating said shuttle in said guide-means, and being composed of a reciprocating bar, a pin secured thereto, and
.a movable hook also attachedthereto, the arrangement being such that the shuttle can be grasped between said pin and said hook; a. spring attached to the guide-means and so arranged as to be adapted t0 press the said Ashuttle against the guide-path provided for it in the said guide means in that position in which the point of the said shuttle is in the neighbourhood oi the stitch plate aperture, substantially as set forth.
