Abstract

296,958. Delplanque, F. March 30, 1928. Tufting-machines.-Free pile loops of thread are caught, as they are made by the needle 11, by a looper 1 and are held until the needle has penetrated the work to form the next subsequent loop. The looper is pivoted at 3, is urged anticlockwise by a spring 7 to bring a tail-piece 5 up to a stop 6 and is turned clockwise by an arm 9 on an oscillatory shaft 10 which engages with a pin 8 on the looper. A cutter 16 for cutting the loops may be provided. It is pivoted on the looper and a tail piece snaps over a latch 20 when the looper moves to engage a loop. In the return movement the latch causes the cutter to swing upwards. The looper is mounted on a plate 4 which can be adjusted to vary the height of the pile loops. A thread pulloff is provided by a hook 48 on the needle bar and two stationary pins 46. Between the pulloff and the needle, the thread passes through a thread lock formed by two pins 28. 29 carried by levers 23. 24 and urged together by springs 34 and 33. In the downward movement of the needle a pin 35 on a lever 25 actuated from the needle-bar carries the levers 23, 24 downwards until a pin 32 stops the lever 23 and further movement of the lever 24 then opens the lock. The lock is opened by a pin 39 when the presserbar is raised.
