Abstract
Disazo dyes insoluble in water are made by coupling tetrazotized m- or p-diaminodiphenylsulphones and the nuclear methyl derivatives thereof with two molecular proportions of mono-or di-amines of the benzene or naphthalene series, or N-alkyl derivatives thereof, containing no groups imparting solubility in water to the disazo dye (e.g. SO3H or COOH). They are suitable for application in the graphic art, e.g. in copper-plate printing for which purpose they may be mixed with resins and solvents. In examples the following dyes are described (1)--(2) m : m<1>-diaminodiphenylsuphone \sQ a - or b -naphthylamine, monoethyl-a -naphthylamine, m-toluylenediamine or m-phenylenediamine; m : m<1>-diamino-p : p<1> - ditolylsulphone \sQ m - toluylenediamine or m - phenylenediamine, (3) p : p<1> - diaminodiphenylsulphone \sQ a -naphthylamine. Brownish shades are obtained. Specifications 301,726, [Class 2 (iii)], 440,698, and 454,029 are referred to.
