Abstract

477,423. Road-vehicle undercarriages. JOHNSTON BROS. (CONTRACTORS), Ltd., and LAMB, P. G. July 21, 1936, No. 20173. [Class 108 (ii)] [Also in Group XXX] A road vehicle comprises a platform, at least two road wheels one at each side, one or both of which wheels is mounted for lateral swivel movement so as to be capable of being moved to alternative positions at the inner and outer sides of the swivel mounting at will and a ramp adapted to form an extension of the platform. The wheels 10 are carried by stub axles 11 adapted to swivel about vertical axes 12 in brackets 15 secured to the ends of the low-lying frame members 16. The stub axles 11 are provided with extensions 17 which, when the wheels are in the inner positions for normal running, are engaged by brackets 21 and locking pins 22 carried on the underside of a pair of separable ramps 18. When it is desired to load, say, a vehicle upon the frame, the locking pins 22 are removed, the ramps 18 raised to disengage the brackets 21 and the wheels 10 swivelled to the outer positions whereupon the ramps 18 are lowered to the ground and moved the desired distance apart on the bar 20 to accommodate the wheels of the vehicle to be loaded.
