Frame construction; wheels, arrangement of; adjusting height of body from ground. - A power or horse-drawn vehicle for transporting a cable-drum or other heavy load comprises a platform E, Fig. 1, with lifting-jacks F<1> for lowering the platform to the ground and raising it with the load within the vehicle framing. The rear wheels are mounted on short axles so as to leave a clear entry between the frame members A and, as shown in plan view in Fig. 4, the rear transverse frame-member B<1> is removably attached to the members A by nuts B<5> and pins B<4> seated in blocks A<2> carried by the members A. The bar B<1> may be swung out on one of the pins or entirely removed for the admission of the load, and a detachable chain- and-screw coupling K may be employed to draw the members A towards each other to facilitate locking the bar B' in its final position.
