[Class 78 (iii)] In a garage service-lift for motor vehicles, run-on trackways are provided which wholly or in part drop slightly as the lift is elevated so that the vehicle is supported on one or both axles leaving one or both pairs of wheels free. In the form shown in Fig. 1, flanged girders 12 secured to the usual central pillar head 11 and connected at their ends by transverse girders 13 to which are pivoted approach ramps 14, constitute the main part of the lift, the trackways 15 of usual trough shape being attached to brackets 17 slidable on vertical bolts 18 secured between the outwardly directed flanges of the girders 12. Downwardly extending legs or brackets 16, raise the trackways to the level of the tops of the girders 13 when the lift is at ground level enabling the vehicle to be run into position. As the lift is elevated, the trackways drop slightly, the vehicle axles being supported on the girders 12. When desired, the trackways may be supported, before dropping completely out of contact with the wheels, by screws 19 threaded through the cross-girders 13. In either case, the girders 13 rise above the level of the trackways to serve as wheel stops as the lift leaves the ground. In a modification, Figs. 4 and 6 the main trackways 21 are rigidly attached to the lift head and subsidiary platforms or tracks 23 with approach ramps 27 for the vehicle front wheels are carried on uprights 24 passing through the main trackways, so that when on the ground, the vehicle axle is raised, to be supported by brackets or jacks 29 when the platforms 23 sink as the lift is elevated. The brackets 29, as required, are inserted in sockets 28.
