[Class 83 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIX] A valve sealing ring g and a rotary operating ring g<1> whereby the sealing ring is moved into sealing contact with a movable valve or goggle plate d by means of co-operating stepped inclined surfaces g<3>, g<5> on the two rings are made together from a single strip of metal. The strip is disposed on the table of a planing or shaping machine at an inclination to its length. To form the steps such as g<2>, g<4>, a series of cuts are made in the strip and these are joined by further cuts transverse to the length of the strip. The two parts so formed are spot-welded together with their machined edges in contact, rolled into a circle and the ends welded. After the whole mass has been machined, the spot-welding is cut away.
