Abstract

Aluminium or an aluminium alloy is coated with a thin layer of iron by immersion in a bath containing ferrous chloride hexahydrate and commercial, 35-38 per cent, hydrochloric acid, preferably in equal proportions, at a temperature above 80 DEG C., preferably 92-95 DEG C. It is then electroplated first with a thin layer of nickel, nickel-copper or other nickel alloy and then with a thicker layer of chromium. Specification 465,078 is referred to.
