476,118. Machinery guards. BROUGHTON, G. J. June 23, 1936, No. 17379. [Class 80 (iv)] " Push - out " apparatus of the kind in which, if a hand is caught between guard members, the whole device moves bodily away from the machine, comprises two guards 14, 15 pivoted on horizontal axes at 12, 13, to depending frame members 11. Just prior to, or during, the descent of the ram 6, the guard 14 is moved from the full-line position shown in a counterclockwise direction to the dotted-line position ; at the same time the lower guard is moved clockwise, i.e. toward the operative. If his hand is caught in the narrow space between the guards, the frame 11 and guards move bodily away from the ram. Motion is derived from a shaft 19 and is transmitted by a rod 21, a lever 22 on an oscillating shaft 10, an arm 23 extending from the shaft or the lever 22, and rods 24, 27 connected to arms 25, 28 fast on the guard spindles 12, 13. The frame 11 is kept normally in a vertical position by a torsion spring on the shaft 10.
