Abstract

502,210. Tension arrangements for yarn-winding and like machines. UNIVERSAL WINDINGCO. Feb. 22, 1938, No. 6618. Convention date, March 25, 1937. [Class 120 (ii)) In yarn-winding and like machines wherein a tension regulator automatically controls the movable member of a tension device comprising fixed and movable members carrying parallel interengaging portions to cause the yarn to pursue a sinuous path, the movable member is pivotally mounted about an axis at rightangles to the direction of its movement towards and from the fixed member and is moved bodily with displacement of the axis, and means are provided to maintain the movable member parallel to the fixed member during the movement. The tension device comprises co-operating grids 39, 40, of which 39 is fixed and 40 is coupled by a link 88 to a weighted lever 95 pivoted at 14 to a weighted lever 10, which is connected to the counterweight 8 of the traverse frame of the' machine. The grid 40 is pivotally mounted at 70 on a frame 60 pivoted at 22, and is connected by ears 85 with an arm 87 of the link 88 so that it is maintained in parallelism with the grid 39 when it is moved away therefrom. The arrangement of the weighted levers 10, 95 is such that the pressure of the traverse frame on the package and the pressure on the grids is reduced in accordance with the growth of the package. A spring-controlled piston 72 serves to return the movable grid to operative position from the open threading position shown in Fig. 8. Abutments are provided to limit the lateral movement of the yarn across the grids. Specification 397,182 is referred to.
