Abstract
473,866. Aerials. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Feb. 19, 1937, No. 5029. Convention date, April 2, 1936. [Class 40 (v)] A frame aerial for direction-finding, particularly on an all-metal aeroplane or submarine, is mounted in such a way that it lies wholly or in part inside the metal frame-work, but so that it can still receive signals. As shown in Fig. 1, the aerial is housed inside a circular opening 3 in the chassis 1, and is operated from either of the positions 51 or 5<11>. In the latter case, an insulated cover-plate is placed over the opening. In Fig. 4, the aerial is partly protruded and is protected by a streamlined cowl 6 insulated at 7. Metal plates or bars may be arranged in the vicinity of the aerial to compensate for quadrantal error. The cowl 6 may be of thick glass or concrete to serve as a protection against bombs or projectiles.
