Abstract
519,809. Aerials. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and AXTEN, B. J. Oct. 4, 1938, No. 28788. [Class 40 (v)] A frame aerial N for an aeroplane or other moving vehicle is enclosed in a streamlined casing M, which is mounted on ball-bearings A, B, C so that it automatically sets itself under the wind pressure to a position where it exercises minimum drag. The frame aerial is rotated by a hand-wheel P, through ballbearings V, W, Y, to any desired position inside the casing. As shown the casing M rotates about the shaft Q of the aerial, but it may be mounted on a plate secured to the part J of the vehicle. A ring E of felt, under pressure from a screw-down ring F, provides sufficient friction to prevent any tendency of the casing M to " flutter " under the action of the slipstream.
