Abstract

1,273,642. Aerial housings. DR.-ING. H.c.F. PORSCHE K.G. 5 Aug., 1970 [9 Aug., 1969], No. 37787/70. Heading H4A. A radar radome 7 of hollow spherical form comprises a shell 10 made of plastics material and a shell 9 made of steel. The two shells are bolted together and are swivellably mounted on a shaft 14 which is fixed in a supporting structure 12. As described, the radome 7 is contained in a part-spherical inwardly-directed recess in the front of the turret of an armoured vehicle. A radar set 3 includes an aerial 4 and a directing mechanism 5 and is mounted on the shaft 14, inside the radome 7. The shell 9 has journals 11 with bores 13 for the shaft 14, and a member 15 at one end which is engaged by a device 16 for rotating the radome. When the radar is in use, the shell 10 projects outwardly, but, if it is desired to protect the equipment, the radome 7 is rotated by 180 degrees, so that the steel shell 9 projects outwardly. The radome may be partially rotated in steps of 180 degrees, and it may be arranged for the radar aerial to be rotated in unison with the radome.
