Abstract
473,421. Folding tables &c. NARBOBOUGH, S. E., and ALPE BROS., Ltd. Feb. 10, 1936, No. 4053. [Classes 52 (iii) and 52 (v)] In a folding table or like article of furniture a folding support 9 is provided with a plate 15 having a cam surface, a pivoted arm or strut 17 provided on a member hinged to the folding support being movable by hand to engage the cam to move the support into its closed position. The Figure shows a folding cabinet-table consisting of a cupboard A and a folding closure member 1, 2 with hinges 3, 4. Hinged to the member 1 is the leg 9, hinged to which is a rectangular frame 12 resembling a gate leg. When the member 1, 2 is pulled outwards, the leg 9 assumes a vertical position, and the gate 12 is turned outwards to support the leaf 2. The folding of the parts is effected by handles 7, 8 and the lever 17 with a pin 16 co-operating with the cam 15 on the leg 9. A spring catch 22, 23 serves to retain the parts when closed up into the cupboard A, in which position the parts 9, 12 are supported by the pin 16 engaging a notch in the cam 15. Sufficient friction is provided by spring washers at the pivot 18 of the lever 17 to hold the lever in any position. The leg 19 is retained in the open position by the pin 16 engaging an indentation 20 of the cam 15.
