[Class 52 (iii)] Brackets or gate legs 16 for maintaining the pivoted leaves 11, 12 of a table in the operative position are pivoted to the vertical frame 13 of the table about an axis slightly inclined to the vertical so that upon raising a pivoted leaf the bracket or gate leg swings outwardly under the action of gravity. The folding leaves 11, 12 are pivoted to opposite edges of a fixed top 10 supported by side members 13 with transverse bars 14, 15. The gate leg 16 has a pair of transverse arms 17, 18 hinged to the bars 15, 14 at 19, 20, the common axis of the hinges being inclined to the vertical. One arm 17 is located adjacent one vertical edge of the leg and the other arm 16 adjacent the opposite edge so that the leg remains vertical. A roller 22 at the upper end of the leg 16 engages the underside of the leaf which is recessed at 23 to accommodate the roller in the folded position. A stop 25 fixed to the underside of the leaf comprises pins 26 and a latch 27 which is lifted by the gate leg at the end of its outward movement. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which the gate leg 16 is hinged to a bracket 30 angularly, displaceable about a horizontal pivot pin 31 on a fixed part 32 of the table frame, and a spring 34 tends to force the bracket to the inclined position shown abutting against a stop 36: An abutment 35 is mounted on the underside of the.leaf in such a position that as the leaf approaches its inoperative position it rides upon the upper bar 18 of the gate leg and depresses the free end of the gate leg to a position in which the leg is vertical. On raising the leaf the leg returns to the inclined position and opens by gravity.
