IRONING BOARD MOUNT'ING Filed Feb. 5, 19152 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 ATTORN EYS 25 ferred from its supported position in the en' Patented Nov. 15, 1932 PATENTFOF'F ICE WINFIELD DUN KIN, OF HUNTINGTON, INDIANA IRONING BOARD MOUNTING Application filed February The invention relates to an ironing board mounting and more especially to a transfer mounting for ironing boards in cupboards, bookcases, cabinets or the like.
The primary object of the invention .is the provision of a mounting of this character wherein an ironing board can be conveniently stored within an enclosure and when it is desired to make use of the enclosure for the storing of articles therein, the ironing board when placed therein can be transferred from its supportwithin the enclosure onto the door so that when the door is open free access may I be had to the shelves or other hangersOrsup- 5 ports interiorly of the enclosure.
Anotherobject of the invention is the provision of a mounting of this character wherein the lroning board when within the enclosure can be swung to usable position and when not in use is concealed within the enclosure, although such enclosure will be freely accessible without the ironing board when therein constituting a barrier to its shelves, supports or hangers, as the ironing board can be transclosure onto the door to be carried thereby and thus avoiding any blocking of the access to the shelves, supports or hangers of the enclosure when it is desired to have free access thereto.
A further object of theinvention is the provision of a mounting of this character where in the construction thereof is novel in form and the same can bereadily manipulated from without the enclosure, the ironing board being normally concealed within the enclosure in confronting relation to the shelves, supports or hangers therein and can be readily shiftable or transferred onto the door for the enclosure for free accessibility to'the enclosure or vice versa for the use of the ironing board.
A still further object of theinvention is the provision of a mounting of this character strong, durable, readily and easily operated,
and inexpensive to manufacture.

Figure 16 is a fragmentary sectional view on the line 1616 of Figure 2.
Figure 17 is a perspective view of the centering members as shown in Figure 16.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
Referring to the drawings in detail, A designates generally a cupboard or built-in wall cabinet of any standard construction and B the swinging door thereto, while within this cabinet is a series of shelves 10, these being cut away at their front edges as at 11 to provide a clearance for the ironing board 12 which is adapted to be concealed within the cabinet A when not in use and is transferrable from the cabinet A to the door B by the mounting constituting the present invention 3 and hereinafter fully described.
I erally beyond opposite longer edges of the ironing board 12 to removably fit within the n hangers 14 and in this fashion the said ironing board 12 is swingingly supported within the enclosure or cabinet A for vertical movement whereby it may be pulled outwardly to a horizontal position as shown by dotted lines in Figure 3 from its normal vertical or perpendicular position as shown by full lines in said figure of the drawings. The board 12 when in the horizontal usable position is supported'by a foldable prop or leg 18 which foldsagainst the board 12 when in perpendicular or upright position.
Carried by one of the uppermost shelves 10 within the cabinet A at opposite ends of the cutawayportion .11 of said shelf are spring pressed snap keepers 19, each adapted for snapping engagement in a slot 20 in an engaging plate 21 mounted'on the ironing board at each of its longer side edges and in this fashion the said board 12 is retained in perpendicular or vertical position when hung in the cabinet A as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings and thus the accidental. swinging of the board 12 is prevented.
Carried by the lower portion of the door B is a transferring mechanism which com prises a stud shaft 22 journaled transversely of the door B in plates 23 and 24 respectively, the latter'being carried at the inner side of the door and the plate 23 at the outer side thereof. The plate 24 is formed with a bail 25 and adapted to swing in this bail is a rotatable lifter 26, the same-being fixed to the shaft 22 and such lifter is designed, when the door is closed, to engage with the pintle 15 and on rotation of such lifter to raise the board 12 so as to lift the pintle from the hangers 14 of the bearings 13 whereby such board 12 can be transferred from the cabinet A onto the door B, the latter at its upper portion being provided with a bail 27 into which is introduced the upper end of the board 12 when being transferred by the lifter 26 and such lifter is formed with a seat 28 for the lower end of the board 12 and in this fashion carried upon the door B.
The shaft 22 has its outer end extended through an escutcheon plate 29 mounted on the outer plate 23 and carries at this outer end a crank handle 30 so that said lifter 26 canbe turned for the raising and lowerlng of the board when the door B has been closed to the cabinet A. Thusit willbe seen that the board 12 may be transferred from the door B at its inner face into the cabinet A to engage in the hangers 14 or discharged from the hangers 14 and'transferred onto the door at its inner side by the transfer mechanism hereinbefore described.
The plate 24 has mounted thereon a stationary stop 31 which limits the swinging of the lifter 26 in one direction and also a swinging stop 32 which when in one position latches and lifter 26 against movement and in an other position permits the turning of the lifter in one direction. This swinging stop 32 is manually manipulated when the door is opened and when in the path of the lifter 26 holds the sameimmovable to retain the board 12 carried upon side. i
The underside of the board 12 carries a femalemember 33 of a centering device, while the door at its inner face carries the male member 34 of such device so that when the door B is closed these members 33 and 34 interfit with each otherto properly center the board with respect to the cutaway portions of the shelves 10 and with relation to the hangers 14 for the positive and sure engagement of the pintle 15 with said hangers 14 or the disengagement thereof.
The strap brackets 17 each constituting a hinge part has overlying the same a retaining plate 35 having a retaining or keeper lip 36 to cooperate with the hanger 14 so as to prevent the pintle end disengaging from the hanger 14 when the board is within the cabinet A and being swung from vertical to horizontal position or vice versa. This lip 36 of the retaining plate 35 also vertically guides the pintle end into and from the hangers 14 when the ironing board 12 is lowered or raised by the transfer mechanism hereinbefore described.
It should be clearly apparent that the ironing board 12 may be transferred fromthe door B into the cabinet and hung therein as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings, the cabinet being identified by A or onto the door as shown in Figure 2 ofthe drawings. The
ironing board 12 when hung within the cabithe door B at its inner fee net may be lowered from perpendicular position to horizontal using position as shown by dotted lines in Figure 3 of the drawings and in this horizontal position will be supported by the prop or leg 18 during use thereof.
What is claimed is 1.
