Abstract

472,765. Pistons. WANS, O., and RUSTON & HORNSBY, Ltd. April 4, 1936, No. 9990. [Class 122 (i)] Pistons for internalcombustion engines are each provided with a sealing-ring groove additional to the number of grooves fitted with sealing rings necessary to maintain the required compression pressure. The piston a is provided with five grooves 1....5 of which four only are completed with rings 1a, 3a, 4a 5a, the groove 2 being left without a ring. As and when the upper groove (1) becomes worn excessively, then a new ring is fitted to the groove 2 to provide effective sealing and the ring 1a is dispensed with.
