[Class 122 (i)] A piston-ring is of the section shown whereby the pressure in a peripheral recess j substantially counterbalances the fluid pressure acting in the back of the ring within the groove; the bearing pressure on the cylinder contacting portion p being provided by the pressure in the low pressure side of the ring acting on the portion n thereof.
