472,028. Roller mills. SIMON, Ltd., H., and FREROTTE, A. March 6, 1937, No. 6703. Convention date, Aug. 10, 1936. [Class 59] A screw-and-nut mechanism for adjusting the movable roller of a roller mill comprises a screwed rod 10 secured against rotation to an abutment 9, a nut 12 engaging the rod and mounted in a link arm 6 connected to a roll adjusting arm 4 and a step - down gearing adapted to rotate the nut. As shown, the arm 4 of the movable roller is operated through a hand lever and eccentric pin 9 on a shaft 8 to throw the movable roller away from the fixed roller whilst the nut 12 on the screwed rod 10 is operable by a worm 17 and worm wheel 21 on the nut 12 to adjust the length of the connecting link 6 and thereby the grinding clearance between the rolls. The casing 6 is provided with a depending rod 14 passing through a lower casing 7 bearing on the underside of the arm 4 and maintained in contact therewith by a spring 15 adjustable by a nut 19 acting through metal and rubber washers 18, 16 respectively. The nut 12 is held in the casing 6 between a thrust race 13 and a ball race 20.
