Abstract

Rolling tubes; mandrels. - Relates to rolling tubes between rolls a and a mandrel b and consists in providing means for adjusting the mandrel relatively to the rolls. The mandrel shaft c. Fig. 1, may be rotatably connected to a threaded spindle d which may be moved axially by a nut f and handwheel g. The nut may be rotated by hand or power through worm gearing. In a modification a coarse adjustment may be effected by a handwheel g, Fig. 3 and a further, fine adjustment by worm gearing operating on an eccentric k interposed in the connection between the mandrel shaft and the spindle d. A coarser and fine adjustment may also be effected by an axially adjustable threaded bush in which the spindie d is independently adjustable. In a further modification, the spindle carrying the mandrel shaft is mounted in a block, moved axially against spring pressure for adjustment of the mandrel by linkage connected to a screwed sleeve. The mandrel shaft may also be rotatably connected to a piston axially adjustable by fluid pressure, or a spindle carrying the mandrel shaft may be independently screw-adjusted in the fluid pressure piston to effect a fine adjustment. The fluid pressure cylinder may be pivotally mounted. The rolls may be axially adjusted by screws 10, Fig. 16, guided in a sleeve 13 and engaging halfthreads in the roll spindle bearing 9. The screws 10 carry pinions 11 by which they are simultaneously rotated by an annular gear 12. A plate-coupling 15 is provided between the roll spindle and its driving shaft to allow of the axial adjustment of the roll. In a further modification the mandrel shaft is provided with a loose mandrel b, Fig. 8, axially adjusted by a nut 2, a ball bearing being interposed between the nut and the mandrel.
