Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.-A, large hydraulic stop-valve of the kind comprising a stationary central stream-line body situated in an enlargement of the pipe line, and a tubular valve member which can be moved axiallv relatively to the stream-line body is provided with means whereby it can be actuated hydraulically or manually. The valve member 4 is formed with an enlargement 4a adapted to work in an annular chamber 6 formed between the casing 2 and a tubular part, carried by the stream-line body 1 and connected by pipes 8 to a distributing-valve 11 supplied with conduit pressure through a stop-valve 9 and filter 10. The passage of the actuating-fluid to and from the chamber 14 is controlled by a throttling-member 12 secured to the piston and formed with a screw thread of varying pitch. The member 12 is. extended to form an indicator 16. The manual actuating-mechanism comprises a ring 17 mounted on the conduit, preferably by means of anti-friction rollers 18, and detachably secured to rods 20, fixed to the valve members, by cotters 22 passed through the rod on both sides of lugs formed on the ring. The ring is reciprocated by a pair of screwed spindles 25 rotatably mounted in brackets on the conduit provided with worm wheels 35 engaging worms 34 on a pair of shafts 32. The shafts have bevel wheels 31 engaging a similar pinion on a shaft 29 adapted to be rotated by hand. The threaded shaft may be coupled to the ring and work through nuts formed in or secured to the worm wheels. The stream-line body is fitted with a bye-pass valve 38 adapted tn be actuated by a hand-wheel 44.
