Abstract

471,623. Ground anchors. AUBERGER, M. July 10, 1936, No. 19146. [Class 45] [Also in Groups XXI and XXX] A method of driving piles by a hydraulic jack comprises driving anchors or moorings 1 into the ground and securing them as by expanding their bases, connecting the upper parts of two or more of such moorings by a beam 27, 29 and driving tubes or temporary sheaths 42 by means of a hydraulic jack 37 interposed between the beam and the sheaths. Each ground anchor comprises a small diameter tube 1 within which is a steel rod 2 terminating in a point 3 and hinged to four trapezoidal steel plates 6 articulated at 8 to further plates 5 hinged to the lower end of the tube 1. The anchors are driven by a monkey in the usual way with the plates 5, 6 collapsed and after driving the plates are expanded by raising the rod 2 relatively to the tube by a hydraulic jack, and secured by clamping the rod and tube together. To withdraw the anchors the rods 2 are released from the tubes 1 and the jack 37 operated to raise the tubes, the initial movement collapsing the plates 5, 6.
