Abstract
471,573. Tempering rails. HENRY, R. July 23, 1936, No. 20392. Convention date, June 8. [Class 72] In an apparatus for heating and tempering rails, particularly their bearing surfaces, the tempering liquid is atomized by one of the gases under pressure, e.g. oxygen, which are fed to the blowpipe which has previously been used to heat the part of the rail to be tempered. Mounted on the rear part of the body A of the blowpipe D is a reservoir B containing a liquid such as water from which the liquid is led by a pipe T to the central tube of the atomizer G adjustably mounted at K on the mixing tube C of the blowpipe. A tap R<3> controls the supply of water and also oxygen which is fed by a tube U connected to the main oxygen conduit O of the blowpipe and thence to the atomizer G. A tap R<1> controls both the supply of oxygen and acetylene through the pipes O, P, the latter pipe also having another tap R<2> thereon. If desired, air may be mixed with the oxygen before it reaches the nozzle of the atomizer G.
