Abstract

470,952. Furnace roofs. HERAEUSVACUUMSCHMELZE AKT.-GES. Nov. 16, 1936, No. 31357. Convention date, Nov. 14, 1935. [Class 51 (ii)] The method of making and repairing furnace hearths described in Specification 226,801, [Class 51 (ii)], is modified for the making and repairing of furnace roofs. A metal mould or template is fitted in position and covered with a layer of dry, sandy refractory material, after which the furnace is heated so as to sinter the refractory material before the template fuses. Cracks are closed on the side facing the hearth with sheet-metal, and then filled in with a granular refractory. Powdered glass or borax may be added to the refractory to reduce its melting point.
