Abstract

470,885. Glass manufacture. CORNING GLASS WORKS. Sept. 16, 1936, No. 25246. Convention date, July 18. [Class 56] [Also in Group XL] The envelope of cathode-ray apparatus has a blown glass part fused to a part formed in a moulding press to ensure optical accuracy so that distortions of a picture viewed or projected through a window in the pressed part are avoided. The envelope of an iconoscope is formed from a blown cylindrical part 16, a pressed part 19 with a flat window 18 and with a protuberance 21 ground off at 17 and a cylindrical part 23. The peripheries of the parts 16, 19 are ground, sanded and sealed together and the part 23 is sealed at 17 to the part 19. A television receiver tube has a flat or curved pressed end part sealed to the end of the blown conical part of the envelope.
