Abstract

715,061. Television. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Nov. 26, 1952 [Nov. 28, 1951], No. 27851/51. Class 40 (3) A cathode-ray tube 1, such as a television receiving tube, having the metal cone 2 maintained at a high positive potential, is mounted on a transparent msulating member 5 which is shaped to fit closely over the screen end of the tube as a protection window and is formed with anchorages 9 to which the tube is secured by webbing loops 13 and springs 17. Insulators 16 may be included. The member 5 is formed of glass or a synthetic resin, such as methacrylate resin, and may be attached to a cabinet 3 as shown or a metal chassis. Insulating blocks 11 serve to locate the tube the end of which is also surrounded by a ring 12 of resilient material such as rubber. The member may be formed with a peripheral flange (not shown) extending rearwardly from the general plane of the member in order to increase the length of the leakage path from the cone. The central portion 6 may be curved as shown to accommodate a tube formed with a curved screen and may be tinted to act as a filter. The marginal portion may be rendered opaque with enamel. A deflecting unit and/or focusing unit for the tube may be assembled and mounted as described in Specification 681,371 whereby both the tube and the units are supported by member 5.
