Abstract

Porous materials such as concrete, mortar, stone, brick, paper, paperboard, cartons, and leather are proofed against liquids or vapours particularly water, spirits, alcohols, phenols, or hydrocarbons, by first applying by means of a spray gun, brush, or trowel an emulsion formed by emulsifying in water or other relatively non-volatile liquid a solution in a volatile solvent of natural or synthetic resins, or cellulose derivatives, drying and then applying one or more coatings of the solution of the protective materials. The solution may contain pigments and plasticizers, and stabilizers may be added to the emulsion.
