Abstract

470,245. Rolling. SCHLOEMANN AKT.- GES. April 12, 1937, No. 10407. Convention date, April 11, 1936. [Class 83 (iv)] The bearing blocks 6, 7 of the middle roll 3 of a three-high rolling mill are supported by pivoted pawls 12, 13 which can be swung out of the way to allow free upward withdrawal of the rolls and their bearing blocks. The rolls may be mounted in an interchangeable frame 9 removable as a unit from the housing 1 along with the top closing cover 10 when lifted. The upper pawl 12 is forced inwards about its pivot 14 to take the pressure of the bearing block 6 by means of a wedge 19 pulled outwards by a hand turned screwed sleeve 19<1>. The lower pawl 13 when swinging in takes the weight of the lower bearing block 7 and on account of the slot 17 bears on the side frame at 13<11> which thus receives the pressure. The frame 9 is coupled to the top closing cover 10 by bolts 20 for lifting out the roll unit and separation is effected by hand turning the bolts 20 so that flat parts thereon can come out of slots in the frame 9. When the frame is being lifted out, the pawls are automatically released from engagement. When replaced, the tightening of the wedges 19 causes the top pawls 12 to bear against the main frames and so steady the interchangeable framing in the housing.
