[Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv)] A floodlighting lantern giving a beam of light of substantially quadrilateral cross-section has a reflector comprising plates or sheets bent to form a basin or trough the surface contour of which conforms to that of two intersecting tubular segments. One portion of the reflector comprises a vertically disposed semi-cylindrical metal backing sheet 23 cut away at the top and bottom where it interfits with portions 24 (not shown) of such a shape as to form, when in position, parts of the surface of a cylinder having a horizontal axis. The sheet 23 is lined with vertical strips of glass mirror 25 and the sheets 24 with horizontal strips 26. The strips are held in position by the bent over edges 23a of the sheets and by metal strips fixed to the backing sheets at the lines of join or intersection of the cylindrical surfaces. The whole reflector is detachably mounted by means of pins 16 engaging within sockets 17 carried by the lantern structure. A holder 19 for the lamp 18 is adjustably supported by a boss 22 carried by the reflector. The lantern is designed to serve also as a street lighting fitment and comprises upper and lower members 5 and 6 connected by pillars 7 and supporting transparent or translucent panels 14 at the rear of the reflector and in front of the reflector a curved glass door 11 hinged at 12 and provided with a catch 13. Some of the light from the lamp 18 is reflected through a space s between the door and reflector and serves to illuminate the panels 14. Glazed panels 15 may be included in the lower member 6. The interior metal surfaces of the lantern are painted white to assist in dispersing any light not projected in the floodlighting beam.
