Abstract

449,290. Vehicle &c. lamps. IZIKOWITZ, J. S., 16, Norr Malarstrand, Stockholm. Oct. 18, 1935, No. 28830. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv)] In a light-projector, suitable for use on air, sea, or road vehicles, or for general illumination purposes, and having two or more sources of light, the forwardly located source of light 10 and its associated reflector 12 being arranged within a casing structure 9, the rear source of light 13 is located at or adjacent the inner focus of an ellipsoidal or substantially ellipsoidal reflector 14, the effective surface of which is disposed mainly above a horizontal plane through the lower forward edge of the casing 9, the remote focus of the ellipsoidal reflector being located adjacent said edge or between said edge and the rear source of light. The ellipsoidal reflector is arranged with its optical axis horizontal or with a slight downward inclination, and additional screening means is provided for any reflecting surface below this axis. The light source 13 and the ellipsoidal reflector 14 are arranged within a supplementary casing 15 which may be formed integrally with, or separate and readily removable from, the casing 9. The casing 15 comprises a back wall 15a, a bottom wall 15b, two side walls 15c, and a front wall 15d which extends vertically between the side walls up to the forward edge of the casing 9. The bottom of the casing 9 may be arched, as shown in Fig. 4, or it may be flat, and the front wall 15d may be wholly or partially translucent and it mav serve as an illuminated number plate or the like. An inclined coloured or uncoloured window 18 may be hinged at 19 to the front edge of the bottom wall 15b and be secured by catches 20 on the lower surface of the casing 9. The light source 13 preferably comprises a slightly upwardly inclined electric lamp bulb' 22, Fig. 6, having its lower surface made reflecting. The bulb holder 23 is mounted on a plate 23a hinged at 24 to a plate 21 which carries the reflector 14 and is recessed to pass over the bulb. The latter and the reflector 14 are held in position by means of hooks which prevent turning of the plate 23a about the hinges 24, and by projections 26 on the inside of the window 18 which clamp the plate 21 against the bottom of the casing 15.
