Abstract

469,438. Electroplating. ALBIN, C. June 20, 1936, No. 28390. Divided out of 469,437. [Class 41] Plating baths are activated by preliminary passage of alternating current in order to reduce the voltage and current necessary in the plating operation. For the deposition of a chromium nickel alloy, two, solutions are prepared containing (a) 500 parts by weight nickelous chloride, 250 parts zinc chloride, 100 parts ferric chloride, 1000 parts water, (b) 20 parts potassium chromate, 50 parts hydrochloric acid, 5 parts sulphuric acid, 100 parts water. The solutions at 25‹ C. are filtered and poured together into an insulated container provided with carbon electrodes between which alternating current is passed. The voltage should be not less than 2À8 and the frequency not less than 50, but high-frequency and high-voltage, produced, for example, by an induction coil, may be employed. To deposit pure nickel, the potassium chromate in solution (b) is replaced by nickel carbonate and nickel oxide in the proportions 3 to 1.
