Abstract

469,069. Coating with metals. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES. Dec. 31, 1936, No. 35880. Convention date, April 30. [Class 82 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXVIII, XXXVI, and XL] A vacuum vessel 3 such as an electric discharge vessel having walls consisting partly or wholly of iron or other metal is first heated to 500‹ C. in a furnace 1 which is either under vacuum or contains an inert atmosphere, while the interior of the vessel is evacuated to de-gas the metal parts ; the temperature is then reduced to 300‹ C. and the vessel finally evacuated, and if required filled with a gas or a cathode liquid, e.g. mercury through a U-tube 9. The furnace is then lifted and the vessel sealed off. The vessel may be coated with metal before being placed in the furnace, this metal closing the pores, e.g copper, silver, &c. may be sprayed on the walls, or aluminium foil or powder may be applied to the iron parts.
