Abstract

Slubbing, yarns, threads, &c. are improved in gloss and given an increased volume and strength by subjection to the process described in the parent Specification, that is, treatment with alkali lye, then, without washing, with a cellulose solution, for example, in copper oxide ammonia, and finally with fixing agents or precipitants for the cellulose. Thus, yarn in hank form may be treated with the cellulose solution in a centrifuge, the yarn being if desired after the removal of surplus solution placed on supports in order to loosen the threads; or a hank-mercerizing machine according to the pressing system may be used for the application of the cellulose solution; and before fixing, the hanks may be re-wound in order to render them more permeable. Alternatively, the yarn may be treated with the cellulose solution while wound on spools, and one or more of the other treatments may be carried out with the yarn in spool form.
