Abstract

269,195. British Celanese, Ltd., (Assignees of Whitehead, W.). April 12, 1926, [Convention date]. Yarns, specially treated, fabrics with.-Yarns made of or containing cellulose acetate or other cellulose esters or ethers showing in their length differences in shade or colour, for the production of effects in woven or knitted fabrics, are obtained by immersing in organic liquids containing dyestuffs or bleaching or colour-stripping agents cops, bobbins, spools or other wound yarn packages, the latter being removed from the bath before a uniform colour change throughout the yarn package has taken place. In the case of cops or spools wound on perforated bobbins or tubes, the outer layers of the package may be protected by another winding of yarn or by other wrappings, the inner layers of yarn being then dyed a deeper colour than the outer layers. To obtain multiple colour effects, there may be dissolved in the bath a number of dystuffs of different penetrative powers, for instance, a benzene solution of aminoazobenzene and methylaminoanthraquinone, the former being more penetrative when used for the treatment of a spool of cellulose acteate yarn. A similar multi-coloured effect is obtained by employing a succession of treatments with different dyestuffs, the time of immersion being suitablly adjusted. Instead of using dyebaths, there may be employed cops &c, of dyed yarns in conjunction with baths of bleaching or stripping-agents, and in such cases the process of stripping described in Specification 260,289, [Class 15 (i), Dyeing &c., Apparatus for], may be employed. The ultimate effect produced on the woven or knitted fabric depends on the character of the windings of the package, and on the nature of the fabric. Thus, with a bottle type of winding and a knitted fabric, a speckled effect is obtained; with a parallel-wind bobbin and a weft-faced satin, the fabric will show bands of altarnately light and dark shades; with cops dyed on their outer layers to a shade deeper than that of the inner layers, and the resulting yarn employed both as warp and weft in a taffetas-weave fabric, the effect consists of a series of criss-cross markings. The packages may be protected at selected places by means of mechanical devices, or they may be only partly immersed in the treating liquids. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) is not restricted to the use of organic liquids for the preparation of the baths, and comprises alro the treatment of yarns of all textile materials, including cellulose and regenerated cellulose, in addition to those containing cellulose esters or ethers. Multiple colour effects are also obtained by employing the dyestuffs in different forms, for instance, an aqueous solution of rosaniline hydrochloride may have mixed with it a dispersion of methlyaminoanthraquinone, the rosaniline hydrochloride showing greater penetrative power. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
