Abstract

467,698. Mounting reflectors, lenses, and electric lamps in aircraft lamps. PINTSCH AKT.-GES., J. May 8, 1936, No. 13069. Convention date, June 26, 1935. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv)] In an aircraft landing-headlamp emitting a light beam adjustable independently of the lamp casing 10, which' is shaped to offer minimum air-resistance, the optical system, which consists of a mirror 2 and lens 3 with a common focus 4, is mounted on ball and socket bearings 11, 12 so as to be pivotal about the common focus. The light source is at the common focus. Adjustment is obtained by two wedge-shaped rings 16, 17 which are in contact with surfaces on parts 8, 18a which are fixed respectively to the parts 11, 12. The rings 16, 17 are relatively rotatable, or may be rotated together. Initial coarse adjustment is obtained by adjusting a spherical surface on the part 8 relative to a correspondingly shaped part 9 attached to the casing 10, and riveting the parts together. The reflector is held against an abutment ring 15 on the carrier 12 by an annular spring 14. A spider 19 which carries the lens 3 is attached to a ring 18 by bayonet joint connections, and the ring 18 screws onto the ring 18a. The socket 7 of the lamp bulb 1, which has a reflecting zone, is adjustable axially, by a screw 5, in a guide which is attached to the part 8.
