Abstract
467,486. Aircraft alighting - gear. FAUDI, F., (trading as FAUDI, F.. [Firm of]). Sept. 14, 1935, No. 25579. Convention date, Jan. 28. [Class 4] In aircraft alighting-gear the landing wheels or other landing devices are carried at the lower ends of outwardlyinclined shock-absorbing struts each comprising end parts 3, 5 capable of a shock-absorbing movement with respect to a middle part 1, and each upper end part 5 is pivoted at its upper end to the aircraft, and each middle part 1 is guided to cause the strut to move outwards on occurrence of shock ; and each end part 3 carrying the landing device being adapted to move with respect to the middle part 1 so that the landing device is able to move in a plane parallel to the plane of symmetry of the aircraft. The guide means comprises a pair of struts 8, only one of which is shown, pivotally connected to a fixed part of the aircraft at 10 and to part 1 at 7. As shown, the shock absorbing device comprises a cylinder divided into two parts by a partition 2, the two parts being equal or unequal in length, and two pistons. The shock absorbing means may be air, oil, indiarubber or helical springs, and the force displacement curves of the upper and lower sets may be arranged either to ensure that constant track is obtained automatically or to give the ground contacting element a tendency to move outwards in order to reduce the bending forces in the strut.
