961,644. Aircraft undercarriages. G. E. HORNSBY. Sept. 26, 1962, No. 36473/62. Heading B7G. An aircraft undercarriage includes two parallel rigid sections 15, 17, 18, 19, 20 mounted at 14, 16 to the aircraft wing or fuselage 10, a wheel 25 being positioned between these sections on an axle whose square section ends 23a are guided for movement in slots 22 in plates 21 fixed to the two sections. The ends 23a extend into bosses 45 connecting the rods 44 of pistons 40 which move in cylinders 30 fixed to section members 18, 19. The pistons have an orifice through which a fluid is forced on relative movements of the wheel and the rigid sections to absorb the energy of landing impact and rebound. The fluid may be air in the upper cylinders 30 and liquid in the lower cylinders and the undercarriage may be fixed or retractable.
