Abstract
467,224. Step - by - step conveyers. SMOKELESS COMBUSTION CO., Ltd., and SWORD, J. N. Aug. 28, 1936, No. 23647. [Class 78 (i)] In fuel-feeds for mechanical stokers in which a reciprocating member feeds the fuel from a hopper &c. to a device for projecting the fuel through a firing opening into the furnace, means are provided for readily disconnecting the drive to the reciprocating member. The reciprocating member consists of two stepped pushers 4, 4a united at their ends by L-shaped plates 4b, and receives fuel sliding down a slope la in the hopper 1 to push it over a lip 6 into a housing 3 in which rotates a high-speed rotor which sweeps the fuel into the furnace. The pusher 4a has two downward projections 8 between which lies the top end of a rocking plate 7 loosely pivoted on a fixed shaft 10. The plate 7 projects through one side of the stoker casing in the form of a lug 7a to which is pivoted at 17 a latch 18. Through the lug 7a passes an abutment screw 20 held against movemerit by a spring 21, and at the free end of the latch 18 is a pin 19 forming a second abutment. Between these two abutments is an arm 11 oscillated by a link 12 actuated by an eccentric 13 on a shaft 14 driven continuously by a chain 15 from a power-shaft 16. The arm 11 is pivoted loosely on the shaft 10, and its top supports the latch 18 horizontally. The sides of the arm 11 strike the abutments 19, 20 in succession, thus rocking the plate 7 and reciprocating the pushers. Rotation of the screw 20 effects change in the amplitude of the reciprocation. By turning the latch 18 up, the arm 11 is immediately disconnected from the pushers. The screw 20 may be located in the latch 18.
