Abstract

466,981. Wireless receiving circuits. PHILCO RADIO & TELEVISION CORPORATION. March 27, 1936, No. 9136. Convention date, April 8, 1935. [Class 40 (v)] A wave trap is provided to suppress medium wave image frequencies when a set is receiving long-wave stations and switching means is provided for making the long and medium wave receiving coils ineffective when medium and long waves respectively are being received. If necessary a long-wave trap may also be used when the set is switched for medium wave reception. When the set is to receive long-wave stations, the switches S1, S2, are in positions B, B1 ; coil L2 is shorted to earth and coils L1, L4 are in series but only coil L4 is coupled to the secondary circuit. Coil L1 is broadly resonant to the medium wave frequency band and presents a very high impedance to medium wave signals whilst the suppression of the signals is further enhanced by the shorting of coil L2 to earth. The coil L1 is of low impedance compared with the coil L4 for the long wave signals, which it is desired to receive. When the switches S1, S2 are in positions A, A1 the coils L1, L4 are in shunt relation with the coil L2 and coil L5 is shorted. Image rejection in this frequency band occurs by virtue of the location of the intermediate frequency but if necessary a parallel tuned trap may be provided. The coil Cl serves as a pad for the tuning condenser VC when the switch S1 is in position B and as a coupling impedance only when the switch is in position A.
