Abstract
392,158. Valve circuits for wireless reception. PLESSEY CO., Ltd., Vicarage Lane, Ilford, Essex, and BAILEY, C. E. G., 5, Guildford Street, Russell Square, London. Nov. 9, 1931, No. 31077. [Class 40 (v).] In a superheterodyne receiver with ganged tuning for the local oscillator circuit 28, 31 and the circuit 11 .. 14 tuned to the received signal, the tuning apparatus is adapted to cover a second waveband without spoiling the ganging by switching an inductance 17 in one of the circuits and a compound impedance 29, 34, 35 in the other circuit. A plurality of circuits tuned to the received signal is used and an additional inductance inserted in each by switches 18. The compound impedance comprises an inductance 29 connected by a switch 30 in the oscillator circuit and coupled to an auxiliary inductance 34 in parallel. with a condenser 35. This circuit resonates at a frequency approximately to the lowest frequency of the long-wave band, and the inductance 34 is made of thin or high-resistance wire to flatten the resonance curve so that the effect extends over about half the tuning range. According to a modification, the compound impedance comprises an inductance in series with a condenser, Fig. 2 (not shown).
