Abstract
A coating mixture for welding rods consists of 65 to 98 per cent of slag-forming material, about 2 to 25 per cent of carbonaceous material having a fuel ratio of 0,5 to 1, and a binder. The fuel ratio is determined by dividing the fixed carbon content by the volatile matter content. Sub-bituminous or bituminous coal may be used such as brown sub-cannel coal, e.g. lignite, black sub-cannel coal or typical cannel-coal. Dried peat may also be used. The coating may consist of 50 parts of calcium carbonate, 40 parts of silica flour, 10 parts of rutile, 10 parts of cannel-coal and diluted water-glass as a binder. Another coating may consist of 50 parts of slip clay, 20 parts of iron oxide, 20 parts of calcium carbonate, 20 parts of felspar, 10 parts of rutile, 10 parts of cannel-coal, 5 parts of manganese ore and 10 parts of low-carbon low-silicon ferromanganese, with a binder of diluted water-glass. Specification 467,034 is referred to.
