[Class 43] [Also in Group XXII] The shank a of the stud is secured to the head d by inserting the end of the former into a recess in the latter and pressing in or upsetting the material of the head concentrically with the stem to form a groove f and to secure the stem. The stem may be similarly secured to the base g by forming the groove i. Alternatively, the rear end of the stem may be formed with a shoulder k, and an end m of reduced diameter which is passed through a hole in the base and riveted thereto, the rear side of the base being countersunk. The head may be provided with an umbrella-like overhanging skirt g, which can be pressed on or around the stem to produce a spherical or pear-shaped head.
