Abstract

501,462. Screw - covering caps. WILLIAMS, J. I. Oct. 1, 1937, No. 26553. [Class 89 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] An ornamental cover of the type shown in the Figure and intended for masking a screw, which is socketed to take a threaded shank 2 on the cover, is made by forming separately the shank and cap and attaching them together with the aid of an intermediate member 1. The latter may be made from a sheet metal disc with a hole slightly undersize, so that when forced on to the shank the displaced metal forms a boss around the countersunk or other shaped head of the shank. Thereupon a sheet metal disc for the cap 9 is pressed to dome shape on to the other elements, the press tools being arranged to produce a slight reduction in diameter to look the assembly.
