Abstract

466,198. Cans, drums, &c. GOSCHL, J. Aug. 16, 1935, Nos. 23067 and 23068. Void. Convention dates, Aug. 17, 1934 and Dec. 15, 1934. [Classes 21 and 66] A container for paint &c., having a lid 2, Fig. 1, seating in a coned mouth-ring and held down by a screw 12 rotatable in the lid and traversing a bar 15 engaged under hooks 14 upstanding from the ring, is provided with a movable flanged bottom 3 having fixed or detachable means for fixing the bottom in any desired position by pressing the flange into light engagement with the wall of the container. In the form shown in Figs. 1, 2 the pressure means comprises outer and inner segmental rings 5, 6 interconnected by pivoted push-rods 7, the faces 8 of the inner ring segments being engageable by a cam 9 so that rotation of the cam in one direction urges the segments outwardly effecting the tightening of the bottom against the wall. Scrapers 10 are provided on the upper face of the bottom. It is stated that the cam and the push-rods in this construction may be replaced by screw-bolts. In the form shown in Fig. 3 the edge of the bottom consists of a split rubber &c. ring 27 stiffened by a spring 24 carrying a wedge 23 co-operating with the tapered slot 22 in the ring. The ring is pressed against the container wall by means comprising four push-rods 16, 20, formed with rack teeth 17 engaged by a pinion 18 rotatable by means of a key. Fig. 5 shows a modified construction comprising two or more wooden &c. segments 21, 21<1>, carrying a rubber &c. packing strip 26, T-shaped springs 30, 30<1> being interposed between the segments, which are forced outwardly by push-rods 16, 20 operated as in the previous construction.
