Abstract
In a drying machine in which the material to be used is fed on to a pair of heated rollers revolving in close proximity, the drier material being scraped off by a doctor, each of the bearings of one of the rollers is adjusted away from the other roller against spring action by a wedge adapted to be raised or lowered by a differential screw device, the wedge acting on the roller bearings through rods. In the construction shown, the bearings 4 of one of the rollers are slidably secured by shoulder bolts 5 and are engaged at one side by spring-controlled rods 6. The other side abuts against distance pieces 8 each of which carries a slide 10 formed with an inclined face engaging a wedge-shaped member 11. The wedge is movable vertically and is carried by a rod 13 which is screwthreaded to engage in a long-handled nut 16. This nut is screw-threaded externally for engagement in a fixed <PICT:0466120/III/1> nut 17. 18 is a lock-nut. The internal and external threads of p the nut 16 differ in pitch, the difference determining the movement of the wedge 11, and hence the adjustment of the bearing 4 with respect to the fixed bearings 3 of the second roller.
